Big River Interview: Aimee Bonte

Rockwood Summit junior Aimee Bonte enters the 2006 State Meet as a certain top ten contender and is the number one runner for the trophy hungry Falcons. Bonte finished 18th as a sophomore at last year's State Meet and has improved this year with top 3 finishes in every meet. Big River caught up with Aimee on Halloween with just four days to go until the big race.

BR: It's State Week, are you nervous?

AB: Yeah, a little bit.

BR: Can you give us a little overview of your season so far?

AB: So far I've placed in the top three in every meet so far. I believe our school has placed in the top three as well.

BR: I know you guys have raced quite a bit this year. What has been your favorite meet so far?

AB: My favorite meet is Hancock so I was disappointed when it got rained out and a lot of the schools weren't able to come to the make-up race.

BR: But you ran it. How did you do?

AB: I won it.

BR: And what is your PR so far this year?

AB: My PR is 19:05 at McNair Park.

BR: So with all those great credentials going in what is the goal for this Saturday?

AB: A lot of people have told me I can get in the top ten so I'm going for that.

BR: Will you go with the leaders?

AB: No. I've been looking at times and I don't think I can run with the top girls. Last year I ran 19:52 [at State] so I want to beat that.

BR: What is the goal for the team?

AB:
I'd like to see us get in the top three.

BR: Your team has done so well all year, will you be doing anything special to get ready this week?

AB: Not really. Everything's gone well so far so we're just going to keep doing what we've been doing. Monday is usually a long distance day then Tuesday is 800 repeats or mile repeats. The day before the race we just do an easy two miles of running.

Thanks Aimee and good luck to you and your team this weekend!!
