St. Louis Track Club Men's Elite Mile

JEREMY DOHERTY

1.) Jeremy, last year you ran a PR of 3:43 in the 1500, a 4:00 road mile and then a 4:04 road mile where you gave 2004 Olympian Grant Robison a run for his money. We haven't seen much from you this year. What have you been up to?

Well after my last race against Grant I took some down time to rest the body and try and heal my hamstring. Then around August I started building base for the indoor track season but right before the season started I received a job offer with Easton in California that I couldn't pass up so the transition took me a month or so to adapt and get in the routine of training. Lately I have really been feeling the itch to get back into shape so hopefully I'll be able to build a few months of solid training here in the near future.

2.) Many of the folks that will be in the stands on Saturday know you from your high school days at DeSmet. Tell us a little about your high school career and maybe highlight the most memorable moment from those years.

I think my high school years were a huge building block for my later success. I was always known for getting to the front and racing hard from the gun that taught me a lot about pushing myself and always racing to my top potential which I think has been my main key to success in running.

3.) What are your goals for this season?

I would like to get some solid training over the next few months to allow myself to run some quality times.

4.) How does the Big River Festival of Miles fit into your season and why did you choose to run it again this year?

This is just such a well organized event and for a great cause. This is such a special event to have this quality of a field running on a high school track in St. Louis. I would like to thank Ben and the whole Big River team for the work that they have put in to make this happen.

5.)How much of a difference does it make for you as an athlete to have a really big crowd at race?

The crowd can really make all the difference, the crowd has the ability to put the excitement in the air I've seen some people run some great races based off of crowd excitement.

6.) Finally, knowing who is in the race and knowing your own fitness level how do you see the race playing out on Saturday without giving away any secret strategies of course!

My prediction is with good weather 4 people are going sub 4.

Watch Jeremy win last year's Macklind Avenue MIle
