STATE MEET PREVIEW!!! Welcome to the Big River State Meet Preview Section. Each day this week we will have new additions to the site including the top 20 individuals for boys and girls, race previews, and daily interviews with top runners from across the State. We will kick things off with the second-to-last set of Big River Team Rankings. For those of you who might be new to the site these are just for fun and serve as a way to see what some of the teams around the State are doing. Email us and let us know if we missed your team. Enjoy! Big River Rankings #6 - 10.29.06 ( last week's ranking in parenthesis) TOP 10 GIRLS TEAMS #1) JEFFERSON CITY (1) – After scoring a Class 4 Sectional low 30 points the Lady Jays now look like heavy favorites to take home the Class 4 crown. #2) MARQUETTE (2) – Managed narrow wins at District and Sectionals and remain number two but may need to run a little better at State to keep that spot. #3) LIBERTY (3) – Big win at Sectional 4, arguably the toughest girls Sectional. #4) ROCKWOOD SUMMIT (8) – Big move up to number four after finishing only two points behind Marquette at Sectionals. #5) LEBANON (NR) – Second at Sectional 3 to move up to #5. #6) KICKAPOO (9) – One point behind Lebanon at Sectionals. #7) BLUE SPRINGS (7) – Second to Liberty at Sectionals, avenging an earlier defeat at the hands of St. Teresa's. #8) STE. GENEVIEVE (10) – Very impressive win at Class 3 District 1. Had a sub 60 second spread with a sub 20:00 number one runner. That is a recipe for success. #9) ST TERESA'S ACADEMY (6) – Third behind at Liberty and Blue Springs at Sectional 4. #10) WEST PLAINS (10) – Class 3 District 5 Champs. The Zizzers have been tough for us to judge all year but now we get to see them go head-to-head against Ste. Gen. Should be one for the ages. ***HONORABLE MENTION: Lindbergh (5), Eureka (4), Notre Dame De Sion (NR), Rock Bridge (NR), Herculaneum (NR)
TOP 10 BOYS TEAMS #1) POTOSI (1) – They've been number one all year and now they get to show why on the biggest stage. We expect them to put on quite the show after clearly holding back at Districts with their top five all coming in together for a perfect score. #2) FORT ZUMWALT SOUTH (2) – Cruised through Districts and Sectionals and still the favorite for the Class 4 Title although things look like they might be a little closer than they once appeared. #3) SLUH (3) – District and Sectional Champs scoring only 27 at the latter while resting two from their top 5. The Jr. Bills are a definite threat. #4) LEE'S SUMMIT NORTH (4) – Like SLUH the Broncos took home District and Sectional Titles. The question is whether or not their depth will bring them home an even bigger win this Saturday? #5) CBC (5) – The Cadets had the top two individuals at Districts and Sectionals. While they won't go 1-2 at Sectionals they probably won't be far off. We predict them fourth in Class 4 but a huge run from their 4-5 men could vault them even higher. #6) LEBANON (NR) – The 6-10 teams and even further are very hard to pick. Lebanon scored 64 points at Sectional 3 which was the lowest score of any second place team in what was arguably the second toughest Sectional. #7) MARQUETTE (8) – Second place in Sectional 1. We still give them the nod over Oak Park because they beat them in their only head-to-head meeting. #8) OAK PARK (9) – Second place in Sectional 4, they now appear to be the second best team from the West side of the State. #9) BLUE SPRINGS (NR) – Only one point behind Oak Park at Sectionals. They have been a bit hard to read this year. Teams like that could be dangerous at State. #10) JEFFERSON CITY (NR) - Third place in Sectional 3. The Jays have been on the radar all year but with that performance they are now in the top 10 for the first time. ***HONORABLE MENTION: Liberty (7), Parkway South (10) John Burroughs (NR)
