Blog 1: Rejuvenated with running partners

Jenny is a St. Louis transplant via the northeast where she ran in high school before going on to run in college. She's also a writer so the pressure is on for some great blogs! Keep checking back to see how she progresses toward the big day!

Rejuvenated with running partners:

10.1.09 (7 weeks out)

Last night we did 24 x 400, the first 12 at “conservative” 10K pace and the second 12 at “fast” 10K pace. Sara and Meaghan and I went out around 1:50s . I was feeling a little nervous about hitting 12 at that pace, followed by another faster 12. But the workout went great. One of the things I miss most from college running is doing workouts with a group and just hitting pace over and over and over. We did the laps in a loop on streets near the store—unfortunately, the high school track we were planning to use was hosting a football game! But running a loop where you can't see the other half of the interval you have to run felt better than a track.

While I felt great on the last three, after the workout I completely crashed. The cold I was pretending was “allergies” really hit and after doing some serious whining I went straight to sleep. I'm feeling better the day after, though I did start getting paranoid after I read a New York Times blog post about marathon running increasing your risk of getting a heart attack. I'm making my way through this article in Runner's World, which is making me feel a little better, though. It's these kinds of things that can get you really nervous while you're sitting at your desk at work!
