Ben Rosario is the Blazers head coach, taking over that position from longtime coach and club co-founder Blair Porter in 2009. Ben is the co-owner of Big River Running Company, an accomplished runner and has coaching experience at all levels. He began running in sixth grade and actually ran for the Blazers from 1994 through 1997. He was a Divsion II All American at Truman State University before going on to run professionally for the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in Rochester Hills, MI. He is a two-time qualifier for the Olympic Trials Marathon and has run everything from a 4:03 mile to a 2:18:53 marathon.
His coaching experience includes two years coaching at the junior high level in Michigan and two years as an assistant at St. Louis U. High. He has also coached several members of the Big River Racing Team including Stephanie Hood, who finished 10th at the Boston Marathon in 2008.
Jen Rosario has been on the Blazers coaching staff since 2009. She handles all the club's administration duties so if you have a logisitics question....ask Jen! Like Ben, she ran at Truman State University where she was a multiple-time all MIAA conference performer in cross country and track.
Jen moved to Portland, Oregon after graduating from Truman and worked at Fit Right Northwest, one of the best running stores in that entire region. She now works at Big River Running Company where she is the store's apparel buyer.
Justin Moseley has been running since he was in 6th grade and took the mile record at his elementary school. He ran for the varsity track and field team and cross country team his freshmen through senior year of high school. Justin competed at the Missouri State Track and Field Championships for the 4x800m relay his junior and senior year of high school. He also coached at the middle school level for the Lindbergh High School Track and Field camp his sophomore through senior year.
In 2005 Justin ran for the St. Louis Blazers and competed on the winning team for the AAU National Cross Country meet! He also went on to compete in the 2008 Cross Country season on scholarship at Missouri Baptist University. He ran the 2009 Indoor and Outdoor track and field season for Missouri Baptist and made it to the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 4x400m Relay.
Katie Helbig joined the Blazers staff with Jen in 2009. Katie works with us during the track season because in the fall she is the head cross country coach at Cor Jesu Academy. A Cor Jesu grad herself, Katie ran competitively in high school and then in college at the University of Dayton.
Katie continues to run and be involved in the sport in many ways. In addition to her Blazers and Cor Jesu duties she also sits on the board for Girls on the Run as well as for the Festival of Miles foundation.
Skip has been with the Blazers since the club's inception in 1992. His son Adam was one of the team's original members and Skip has been around ever since serving hot chocolate after cold November cross country practices and bringing freezer pops after scorching hot track practices in the summer. He is also instrumental in setting up the Blazers home cross country course at Castlewood State Park.
Skip isn't around quite as much as he used to be because he also helps Adam who is now the head cross country and track coach at Parkway South High School. There is no one who loves the sport more than Skip and you can also find him helping out at Big River Running Company on the weekends and of course with the store's two trail races; The Castlewood Cup and The Skippo.
