St. Louis Running and Walking Trails

KATY TRAIL STATE PARK

ST. CHARLES TRAILHEAD

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The Katy Trail is the longest rails-to-trails conversion in the country. This is a flat recreation trail grades never exceed five percent. The trail is open to runners, walkers and bikers and is wheelchair accessible.

If you're looking for a long distance cardio workout or just a great easy run/walk, the Katy Trail is a great trail to explore. The hardpacked, eight-foot-wide trail offers many great views of the scenery along the Missouri River . It also passes through many historic, small communities in the river bottoms.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Miles and miles of flat, soft surfaced trails. Mile markers to track pace and distance traveled. Hundreds of walkers and runners can be found there on the weekends. The trail is a great place to hammer a run or get a nice relaxed workout in. Plus one of the areas largest group runs gathers there regardless of weather on Saturday mornings @ 7am !

DIRECTIONS: From St. Louis take I-70 west. Exit by going north on 5 th St. , the first exit west of the Missouri River. Turn right on Boonslick (just past the McDonald's). Drive straight into the parking lot.
