Big River Signature Events

Big River produces annual events that are first-class, fan favorites for runners of all abilities ranging from first-time participants to competitive athletes. These Signature Events, which include both trail and road races, offer a unique experience each year with quality amenities and awards. Professionally managed by industry leading Big River Race Management, these events utilize ChronoTrack Live chip timing technology which offers immediate results, professional photography and optional real-time social media integration for all participants.

 

The Skippo – 10K Trail Race

Timed by BRRace Mangement ChronoTrack_97x32 ChronoTrack-Live_97x32 Online Registration The Skippo Trail Race is a series of three challenging distances – 10K on Saturday and a 20k and 30K on Sunday – through the beautiful Castlewood State Park. Each of the races presents a course ranging from steep grades, creek beds, the infamous “stairs” and very fast sections.  For the brave athlete, the 10K can be run on Saturday followed by either the 20K or 30K on Sunday!  At the same time, this event is open to all abilities and experience levels though we strongly encourage practicing trail running and checking out the course preview run the weekend before the race. Making The Skippo so popular is the post-race party at the pavilion and awesome amenities for all athletes.  Everyone that participates receives a finisher’s keepsake, long-sleeve quality tech shirt, on-course hydration and fuel stations, as well as awards for the top three in each age group. The Skippo has a participant cap and sells out every year so register early!

The Hungry Turkey

Timed by BRRace Mangement ChronoTrack_97x32 ChronoTrack-Live_97x32 Online Registration Participating in The Hungry Turkey gives families a great way to kick off Thanksgiving Day while eliminating the guilt of gobbling up yummy eats later in the day. A first-class, chip-timed event, The Hungry Turkey is run in conjunction with the Thanksgiving Day Parade in downtown St. Louis. The Hungry Turkey features quality hooded sweatshirts for all participants, age group awards and prizes for beating The Hungry Turkey. The event also raises funds for a local charity during the holiday season, which in its inaugural year (2013) collected more than 2,000 pounds of canned goods and more than $1,500 for Operation Food Search.  To encourage the entire family on Thanksgiving morning to participate, the event is stroller and pet friendly and finishes along the Thanksgiving Day Parade route giving race participants a preferred viewing position!

Big River Winter Distance Camp

Big River Running’s Winter Distance Camp is a great way to get a jump start on the 2015 track season or to build a base for winter training. 7th-12th graders are encouraged to join us for a great week of training, the opportunity to meet other runners, the chance learn from some of the best runners in the St. Louis area and, of course, to have a lot of fun! Campers will end the week feeling motivated and excited to reach their goals for the upcoming season. Teammates get a discount, so gather your friends and join in the fun!

Commitment Day

Commitment Day is a family friendly 5K run/walk on New Year’s Day that takes place in nearly 50 cities nationwide and St. Louis is one of them!  This is one event that is really for the entire family:  children 12 and younger can register at no charge with a paid adult, the start time is conveniently mid-morning allowing you to sleep in a bit, strollers are welcome, and there are even quality shirts for all paid participants.  For the serious athlete, this is the perfect “first race” of the year, too!  Professionally chip-timed and managed by Big River Race Management, and featuring awards for top finishers in each age group and gender, you can test your strength and be amongst the first people in the entire country to run a 5k in 2015! Castlewood Cup 15k Trail Race

The Castlewood Cup is a true test of trail running stamina with a challenging 15k course in beautiful Castlewood State Park that includes uphill, downhill, switchbacks and creek crossing sections! All athletes receive an official Castlewood Cup hooded sweatshirt and the awards go three deep in each of the 5-year age groups.  Like its autumnal cousin The Skippo, the post race party, on-course hydration and fuel stations make this event top-notch for trail enthusiasts and novices alike! Festival of Miles

The Nike Festival of Miles is a charity track meet featuring 2.5 hours of non-stop action with youth and middle school races, high school races showcasing some of the nation’s top talent and pro races featuring Olympic level athletes. Each year all proceeds from ticket sales go to an athlete/athletes in need. You don't want to miss biggest night on the St. Louis running community's calendar!

The Macklind Mile

Without a doubt, the Macklind Mile is one of St. Louis' most fun races that anyone can enjoy! Presented by Big River Running Company, it is the area's largest one-mile road race that doubles as an outdoor, family-friendly party with beer, food, kids activities and more! The one-mile, downhill course means that anyone can participate! Whether you walk with your family members, fly down the course in attempt at a personal record or cheer on the little runners in the kids quarter mile dash, this event is high-energy and a ton of fun!
