ROUTE 66 STATE PARK

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Nestled among the bluffs and woods of the Meramec River valley, visitors can thoroughly enjoy the scenery of Route 66 State Park. With seven and one-half miles of trails circling the park, individuals can run, hike, bicycle or horseback ride along side the Meramec River and near the Burlington Northern Railroad.

The park features level walking, bicycling and equestrian trails that are perfect for beginning riders and health-conscious visitors providing access to miles of pleasant serenity.

The trails link to a new trail system in Eureka and will eventually link with portions of Castlewood State Park in Ballwin.

The fall brings spectacular displays of color that can last for almost two months because of the diversity of trees that are present and their widespread times for changing color

WHY WE LIKE IT: This park offers a great place to get a nice easy workout. The trails are flat and wide where both runners and walkers can enjoy the tranquility of the river and the abundant wildlife. Plus its right down from the road from the Chubb trail making for a great one-two punch long run.

DIRECTIONS: Route 66 State Park is approximately 26 miles from downtown St. Louis .. From I-44 west take Exit 266/Lewis Road; follow the road to the right and then curve to the left. Continue past the West Tyson County Park entrance to the stop sign at Lewis Road . After crossing Lewis Road , you will see the visitor center on the left. By continuing across the bridge, you will enter the park grounds.

TRAIL MAP

DISTANCE: 3 miles around the perimeter of the park with many options to add additional miles. 7.1 miles of trails total.
