Big River Winter Distance Camp

Big River’s Winter Distance Camp is a great way to get a jump start on the upcoming track season or to build a base for winter training. Join us for a fun four days of training, the opportunity to meet other runners, the chance learn from some of the best runners in the St. Louis area and, of course, to have a lot of fun! Runners will end camp feeling motivated and excited to reach their goals for the upcoming season.

WHO:Winter Camp
Runners of all abilities in grades 6 – 12 who are interested in distance running. Everyone from beginning runners to those striving to be state champions can gain something from Big River’s camp. Runners from more than 80 schools in the St. Louis region have attended camp.


The cost of the camp is $100 per athlete.
Teams of five or more pay $75 per athlete.
Campers who can’t attend all four days of camp may register for a reduced fee.

CAMP SCHEDULE (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at Kirkwood Community Center)

8:45am – Check-In Begins
9:00am – Camp Begins (Announcements)
9:10am – “Running 101”
10:00am – Games/Activities
10:30am – Technical Drills
11:00am – Daily Workout
12:30am – LUNCH
1:00pm – Camp Ends

11:30am – noon – World Famous Big River Pancake Brunch (MICDS)


  • Expert Running Advice – Each day an expert will talk about various topics such as proper running form, nutrition, training philosophies, race day preparation, injury prevention, proper shoe selection and more.
  • Free Stuff – Surprise goodies from Big River Running given away all week long.
  • Panel Discussion – Current and former collegiate runners will answer questions about running in college, the recruitment process and coping with life as a runner at the next level.
  • T-Shirt Exchange – Campers bring a school, team or race t-shirt to trade with other campers.Camp cheer
  • Big River Indoor Track Meet/Pancake Brunch – On the final day of camp, we put on a mock track meet followed by our famous all-you-can-eat pancake brunch. The race is a fun way to learn about the competition aspect of running while giving campers the opportunity to earn braggin’ rights!



  • Online registration is closed, but you can still fill out a paper form, bringing it along with a check to the first day of camp to register.
  • If you are unable to come to all four days of camp, you can register online or with the paper form and pay a reduced fee.

  • Mail or drop off your completed form and payment at Big River – West County (14047 Manchester Rd., 63011) now through Dec. 22.
  • After Dec. 22, bring your form and payment directly to camp.

*TEAM REGISTRATION – Teams with 5 or more participants pay $75 per camper! For your convenience, teammates can register separately online or via paper form, however, if you don’t end up with 5 team members we will assess a $25 fee per camper.

Complete camp information including directions and details will be emailed to participants a few days prior to the beginning of camp.
