Half and Full Marathon Training Teams

Big River Running Company is proud to host a fun, friendly and first-class training program for runners and walkers of all ability levels to prepare for fall half and full marathons.

This group is designed to help you on your personal fitness journey by providing you with coaches and teammates who share similar goals, turning the tough grind of training into a fun, social experience.

Fall 2017 Details:
Big River Training Team

  • 12-week training program
  • A variety of ways to participate based on your desired level of commitment and training goals
  • Experienced coaches and group pace leaders
  • Hundreds of participants means there are paces and running partners for all ability levels (including walk and run/walk)
  • Beginner friendly
  • Weekly long runs on Sunday mornings at 7:00 am
  • Group runs on Monday evenings at 6 pm from Big River Running stores
  • Weekly team emails to keep you informed

Training Team Options:

We offer affordable training plan options for all ability and commitment levels. 

Having a training plan can help you stay injury free, improve your fitness and greatly increase the chances of achieving your goals!  You now can have a training plan designed specifically for YOU! You deserve more than a generic training plan to help you achieve your goals!

Each training plan comes with specific pace recommendations, daily mileage assignments and can be personalized for your life schedule and goal race. Additionally, for those that sign up, you will be able to contact a coach directly via email, text or phone.

Coaches – Big River Personal Coaching supports Big River’s Training Team, lead by head coach Bryan Traughber. Their support, guidance and motivation can help you achieve your goals!

Pace Groups – We have a pace for everyone, including walkers and walk/run! On Sunday mornings, we run in groups based on pace, not distance. Pace should be training (long run) pace, not race pace. Although everyone in your group will run a similar pace, people will be running different distances. (We offer paces from 7:30 and faster all the way to a walk group).

Gold Level – Customized Training Plan + Coaching Session + Thursday Workout Package ($125)

    • 60 minute one-on-one coaching session
    • Written for your specific race

    • Unlimited communication with your coach (phone, text, email, etc.)

Silver Level – Customized Training Plan ($50)

  • Weekly paced group run
  • Weekly newsletter email
  • Silver Level Customized Training Plan
    • Written for your specific race
    • Individualized paces
    • Individualized workouts
    • Specific daily mileage plan
    • Unlimited communication with your coach (email)

Thursday Workout Package ($50 a la carte, but included in Gold Level)
While many people training for a half or full marathon focus on long runs and the endurance aspect of training, speed and pace work play a very important role and should not be overlooked! This Training Team season we are offering the option to participate in a structured weekly speed/pace workout with the guidance of a coach.

  • Thursday workouts will go from Aug. 3 to Sept. 21.
  • We will meet at either Nipher Middle School (tentatively) or Grant’s Trail (Applebee’s parking lot off Watson Rd.) each week at 6:30 p.m.
  • The workout package is included at the Gold Level, but can also be purchased if you choose to participate at the Silver or Free Level
  • Workouts will be standard among all participants each week, however paces and volume will be targeted based on individual and training needs

Note: If you would like more structure/advice than suggested Sunday mileage, we recommend you sign up for a plan! An individualized plan is the best way to help you achieve your goals. Plans at this price structure are designed to be 12-week plans for goal races in October (or close to that timeframe). Keep cool in style with these custom designed technical, moisture wicking running hats (BOCO brand)! Hats will be able to be purchased through Training Team registration only. We have limited quantities available and they’ll be available for pick up July 30.


We meet for group runs/walks every Sunday at 7:00 am beginning July 9 and going into the end of September to help you prepare for the your fall full or half marathon. Our goal race is The Great GO! Halloween Half. You can still train with the team even if this is not your goal race.

There are also additional opportunities to run with a group each week at Big River’s Monday Night Group Runs at 6 p.m.




Key Dates:

  • Training Team Sign-up Opens – Mid June
  • First Sunday Training Team Run – July 9
  • Intro to Half & Full Marathon Clinic (for first-timers!) – August 3, 6 pm ($20 clinic fee, includes participation in the Thursday Night Workout for that night)
  • Deadline to purchase a training plan or Thursday Workout Package – August 6
  • Training Team Sign-up Closes – August 31
