SPANISH LAKE PARK

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: (Spanish Lake Park 1.6 and adjacent Sunfish Lake 1.9 can be combined together for longer runs with more varied terrain.)

Spanish Lake trail is a relatively flat, asphalt trail circling Spanish Lake. (1.6 on the map, but closer to 1.4) Mature trees and great views of the lake from the entire trail make for a relaxing run or walk any season. Spanish Lake Park opened in April of 1971 and in 2001, the Cardinal Care program constructed “Spirit Field,” an accessible baseball field, in the upper part of the park. The park and area of Spanish Lake (unincorporated North County) was named after the Spanish troops who stayed there while building a fortified post for Spain in 1768.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Used by people of all ages and abilities, ample restroom facilities, easy parking and the option of combining with Sunfish Lake trail. The loop makes it easy to create longer runs and the flat trail is good for speedwork. Bikers, roller bladers, dogwalkers and runners all share this trail.

DIRECTIONS: From 270, exit at Bellefontaine Road. Head North to Spanish Pond Road on the right. Park entrance is on the right just over the train bridge.
